I started the Galion Charter because I want this community to be as strong as it possibly can be. This is where I grew up and it is where my children are growing up. The world has changed so much in the last few decades that it has become a major struggle for communities like Galion to remain rooted in the shifting landscape of culture, politics, and economics. The journalism models that we once relied on are no longer able to keep up, in the age of the internet. It is incumbent on us to adjust or fall further behind.
The Galion Charter exists to share Galion's story. This means news, but it also means providing a platform and a voice for the many people in this community who believe in Galion and want to be a part of making our community stronger.
Short, edited news videos about things happening in Galion. These usually focus on specific news items that are tied to larger cultural issues, giving the community the opportunity to weigh-in and think about Galion from a wider perspective.
We frequently interview members of the community-- business owners, community leaders, or storytellers --who want to share their perspective. These videos give the news a more personal, community-oriented feel.
In addition to the news, we focus on local storytelling, This can be personal stories from local people or historical stories about Galion.This community has a rich history and it is important to keep in touch with it as we move into the future.
We are excited to explore new ways of shedding light on things happening in Galion. This will include event coverage, editorials, and more opportunities for the community to be involved in everything that we are doing.
